Receiving Visions

No, I’ve never received a vision from God. I get his word the old-fashioned way, from the bible. But I want to talk about those in the bible who have received visions.

First, I must start with John and the book of Revelation. John cracks me up. He is so over-whelmed by what he sees that he stands in awe watching. The angels had to keep reminding him to “write this down.” He keeps forgetting that he’s not there to just watch the visions, but to document them for us.

I can understand completely. I would have been over-whelmed too. This next verse explains what it’s like to be in God’s presence.

Revelation 1:17 When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last.”

The First and the Last. That’s God. He was talking to GOD! Wouldn’t you feel so small and unworthy? I know I would!

Another example is when Peter and other disciples witnessed the transfiguration of Jesus. They were so astounded; they didn’t know what to say.

Matthew 17:6-7 When the disciples heard this, they fell facedown to the ground, terrified. But Jesus came and touched them. “Get up,” he said. “Don’t be afraid.”

I got the inspiration for this post from Zechariah. He received several visions and I’m sure he was just as flabbergasted as the others at first, but he started getting accustomed to the visions because he even participates of his own free-will in this one. Read on.

Zechariah 3:3-5 Now Joshua was dressed in filthy clothes as he stood before the angel. The angel said to those who were standing before him, “Take off his filthy clothes.” Then he said to Joshua, “See, I have taken away your sin, and I will put fine garments on you.” Then I said, “Put a clean turban on his head.” So they put a clean turban on his head and clothed him, while the angel of the LORD stood by.

Zechariah is hearing them talking about putting clean clothes on Joshua. He puts in his two cents worth to see if Joshua could have a clean turban too! It tickles me that Zechariah is getting into his visions and is now making suggestions! And they do it! I’m sure they were going to do it anyways, but it’s neat that he suggests a clean turban and the angel responds while the angel of the LORD stood by. Wow!

Some day when we are living with the LORD, we will be so comfortable with him that we’ll just chat with him like we would a good friend. Won’t that be something?

Of course, that might take a while. Me might do some stuttering, fainting and falling down for a while first.

This personal friendship with God is something I’m looking forward to!

  1. “stuttering, fainting and falling down for a while first.” That’ll be me, first for the awesomeness that John experience, but then for the stunned sense that He actually saved ME!!! Hallelujah! What a blog!!! (And what fantastic photos! Around Lake Michigan? Yours?)

    1. I’ll be in shock too that he saved me. Except for my post about Pennsylvania, all my pictures (as far as I can recollect) were taken in Michigan, by me and my cheap little ol’ Canon. Michigan has been so amazingly blessed with natural beauty that I don’t have to go far to get great shots. (Lake Superior, Lake Michigan and Gull Lake are the featured shots with water). I’m hoping to explore the Lake Huron area this fall, so Lake Huron pictures are to come…
