Michigan Mary Goes to Pittsburgh

I rarely leave Michigan. We have so many beautiful places to see and things to do that I don’t often feel a need to go anywhere else.

However, Pennsylvania has something that Michigan doesn’t.

My great-niece. This is the first time I’ve met her. Covid made it hard to get out there sooner. It was so much fun spending time with them.

They showed me around Pittsburgh. This is the first time I’ve seen a vending machine for cars! How cool is that?

We got to ride up a big hill in this. You can drive up there, but what fun would there be in that?

This is a great over-all picture. On the right you can see the look-out platform. You can also see the trolley with Pittsburgh in the background.

From the viewing platform we had this spectacular view. Here is where the Alleghany and Monongahela Rivers converge to make the Ohio River.

This is “The Point” where the rivers converge. I hear that there’s usually a fountain right here at the point but it wasn’t on while we were there.

Look at these bridges. There are 446 bridges in Pittsburgh and they call themselves “The City of Bridges.” From the viewing deck, I saw around a dozen, so it’s not hard to imagine there being that many.

At the top of the hill, there’s this view finder so you can take a closer gander at the city.

We ate lunch at the Grandview Saloon. They had interpretive dancing for the entertainment.

The food was great and they don’t skimp on the portions.

Geesh.

Pennsylvania is a hilly state. The roads aren’t checkerboard here. They wind, curve and go up and down.

This is the Cathedral of Learning. That’s what I call higher education.

At this church, a wedding had just ended. There are lots of beautiful buildings and churches to see.

Old Glory is always a beautiful sight.

There was a concert in the park. The weather was so nice. The college students took advantage of it.

The carousel was a crowd pleaser.

Even the grown-ups loved it.

Grandma and granddaughter time!

This was a tunnel we went through. With all the hills there, the roads usually go around them, but sometimes they just blast a hole in them and make a short-cut.

We pulled off to the side of the road and watched the planes taking off and landing.

I got some Italian Ice at Rita’s and it was delicious. I might have to go back to try their custard too.

I was spoiled by everyone with some good old Pennsylvania hospitality. I had a great time. I already miss them! Maybe I’ll have to visit again next year! (Hint, hint)
