Sugarloaf Mountain is definitely a must-see if you’re in the Marquette area.
I went there with my friend Debi and her nephew. As you can see, Corey was a little more enthusiastic than us about getting to the stairs and tackling them.
We asked this lady if the view was worth going up all those steps for. She said yes and told us how beautiful it was. Her friend at the top of the stairs was mouthing the word “no” and shaking her head. But… she was also laughing. So, we headed on up.
This is one of the views.
The wooded trails were bursting with colors. (We were there the first week of October).
A superior view of Lake Superior.
I love his coat. I want it!
These young ladies were chillin’ and taking in the view.
One man on the net said he climbed up to the top in 15 minutes. I believe it, but if you’re older like me, plan on a little more time than that. There are two different trails you can take. One is harder, steeper and faster. The other takes a little longer, but it’s a tamer grade. You got it – that’s the one we took. Cory had mercy on us and let us go that way.
Sugarloaf Mountain is 6 miles north of downtown Marquette on CR 550. While in the area, if you enjoy this, you also need to check out Presque Isle and the Dead River Falls. Marquette also has a walking / bike riding trail along Lake Superior.
Proof that I was there.
At the top were three viewing platforms. There was quite a few people up there, but it didn’t seem crowded because there was lots of space to walk around with spectacular views in every direction.
No one seemed in a hurry to leave once they reached the top. You just wanted to soak in the beauty.
Deb and Corey
Time to leave. You hate to go, but the walk down was awesome too. Take time to get outdoors and enjoy what God has created for us. You’ll love it.
