Mystery Moon

Moon, moon, you baffle me so.

How is it at night you brilliantly glow?

They say you’re not a light. You reflect the sun’s light.

But you shine brightest when the sun’s nowhere in sight.

Moon, moon, they say you eclipsed the sun.

But I never saw you go. I never saw you come.

You and the sun went from Texas, travelling north-east to Maine.

You didn’t travel west. Your normal path you did refrain.

Moon, moon, was it really you who eclipsed the sun?

Or is another mysterious heavenly body having some fun?

Shine, shine, ever so bright high up in the sky.

You make me wonder. You make me ask why.

God created two great lights; one to govern the day, one the night.

He also created heavenly bodies; all to give light.

I don’t understand many things, but it’s all in God’s hands.

God bless us all. God bless our lands.

  1. Hi Mary,

What a sweet poem. I was fortunate to be traveling by boat during the May full moon on the Delaware River. I have always loved the rising moon and a clear night while anchored up a creek is the best. Mike and I have been doing the Great American Loop since last July. We just got to NYC. Mike and I are one our last legg of the journey: up the Hudson River, then Erie Canal to Lake Ontario and lastly east to our home port on the St. Lawrence River.

I am glad to see you are still writing..Be well Debbie

    1. That sounds like such a remarkable experience. I bet you have many stories to tell. A lady I used to work with did the same thing; her and her husband. I always enjoy any time I spend on the water.

    1. I’ve always loved looking at the sky; sunrises, sunsets, the moon, clouds, etc. The moon’s been mysterious to me for quite some time now. It seems they’ve been untruthful to us all these years about the moon; among other things. I finally realized that the moon is a light itself. It’s not reflecting the sun’s light. How can it be reflecting the sun’s light when it’s in total darkness and the sun’s light is being blocked by the earth? I could go on about this topic, but then I might just find this disappears and doesn’t make its’ way to you.
